So, exactly what is Redstone Cyclery's Lyons Fat Tire Fest? Well, first let me tell you a little history. We started this in 2001 as our housewarming party. It was the year we moved to the best little town on the Front Range, Lyons, CO. Yes I am biased. We always threw our party/celebration on Memorial Day to allow friends from all over the country to come and enjoy a 3 day weekend with us. We would ride, party, get up and repeat for a few days in a row. This year is a continuation of what a small group of bike riders, my wife, and myself started many moons ago. We've had to make a few changes along the way. The last couple of years have gotten pretty big - big enough that we've had to split the ride into a couple of different groups due to ability, endurance, etc.
We've made a few changes for 2010. Rides will range from advanced/intermediate to advanced to experts only. Riders are also free to ride wherever they want during the day and to hang out and party with us in the evening. It's all about riding and having a good time.

Still thinking about what we're going to do on Sunday. Definitely will be fun, though.

The goal of the fest, though, is still exactly the same as the original. To have a good time. Um, and hopefully to be swearing at me on the Saturday Deathmarch. See you there!

All rides start at Redstone Cyclery (138 Main St) Please park across the street on Railroad Ave or at the Black Bear Hole across from the Black Bear Inn. thanks!

Typically, well, at least in the previous 9 fests in LFTF history, we've had a big ol throwdown party on Saturday after the big ol rides. We'll be doing that again. For Friday, we'll have food, beer and bike vids on the big screen. Proceeds from the Friday bash will go towards the Lyons Bike Park.

We'll also be having a big ol throwndown party at our house like in times past. Come on over after you're done riding and bring something to grill. I expect we'll have a keg or two there, definitely Oskars :)

For those that are concerned, official event partying will take place not in the camping areas :)

Camping and lodging

Camping will be available in Meadow Park in town. Works for RV or tent situations and you'll need reservations. Call the Town o Lyons at 303-823-8250

Saturday Ride - the all dayer

We'll be having the "big" ride from last year and the year before and the year before. The staple big ride. It's not too big, not too short. You know, just right. The one that is typically 6-7 hours long, 7k+ feet of climbing and 30+ miles? The one that was just a long ride but not a deathmarch?

Saturday Ride - Dave's uber deathmarch

The big big ride this year will be just like the All Dayer B Ride only tougher, longer, with more singletrack and more hike a bike. Definitely an all day affair, so pack for everything. The ride will follow the general route of the All Dayer B but will have a few significant inclusions and destractions :)

Saturday Ride - on your own

If you want to ride or explore at your own pace or with your own posse, that's great, too. Heil Ranch/Picture Rock and Hall Ranch are riding distance from town. Camping will pretty much be at the Picture Rock trailhead. Tons of great riding close in by car, too.
